Where the fish comes from, and what the names mean

Turkish sea bass is European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax. Turkish sea bream is gilthead sea bream, Sparus aurata. Both are farmed, not wild. Ours are raised in offshore cages along Turkey's Aegean coast, where strong currents renew the water constantly and give the fish the firm flesh and clean taste that European chefs buy Turkish fish for. Turkey built its aquaculture industry around these two species, and they remain its flagship seafood export.

For a Gulf buyer, the practical meaning of fish from Turkey is a farmed product of predictable size, available every month of the year, graded to the gram and traceable from the hatchery to the export carton. That is a different purchasing proposition from wild reef fish, where size and volume follow the season. Buyers who want a third Turkish line on the same load can add Black Sea salmon, Salmo labrax, gutted in 2 to 3 kg and 3 to 4 kg grades, ten kilos to the box.

Frozen shelf life is 24 months. Both species are packed at EU export certified, HACCP approved plants, and custom branding on the box is possible.

Chilled by air, frozen by reefer, into Dubai and Abu Dhabi

Two routes serve the UAE. Chilled fish leaves Turkey by air freight in styrofoam boxes of 10kg net and arrives as a fresh counter product for Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Frozen fish moves in a reefer container, bulk or IQF, in carton boxes of the same net weight, which suits a buyer holding stock or working to a fixed landed cost. Sailing schedules, flight days and lead times are confirmed on each order, because they change with the season and the line.

Every shipment travels with a health certificate, a certificate of origin, the packing list and the commercial invoice. Halal certification is available where the producer holds it, and we confirm the certificate number, the issuing body and the scope for your shipment before loading rather than printing a logo on a web page. Minimum order, samples and how a quote is issued

The standard minimum for seafood is one container, and it does not have to be one item: sea bass, sea bream and Black Sea salmon travel in the same load, so a mixed container is normal for a first order. Send your requirement through the form on this page, stating species, form, size grade, chilled or frozen, quantity and the destination port or airport. You get a written quotation against that specification. Samples can be arranged for a programme that justifies them. No prices are published anywhere on this site.

Hammour and sheri from Oman, on the same order

Gulf kitchens do not run on Mediterranean species alone, so alongside the Turkish lines we carry two Omani reef fish that UAE buyers ask for by their local names. Hammour, listed in our catalogue as white grouper, Epinephelus diacanthus, is sea frozen on board and supplied whole round or headless and gutted in 1000-2000g and 2000-4000g grades. Sheri, the spangled emperor, Lethrinus nebulosus, is landed the same way in 1000-2000g, 2000-3000g and 2000-4000g grades.
